Rounded Rectangle: The Centre is an entirely voluntarily run Youth Organization, operating from the Jubilee Compound behind the Littlehampton Swimming Centre. The Centre provides the dinghies, canoes and buoyancy aids to enable young people (9 to 18) to have fun learning new skills (sailing and canoeing) with like minded youngsters. The young people gain skills with which they could become the next Olympic Champion or just enjoy the social aspect of sailing or canoeing. As an RYA Training Centre our sailing activities are under the supervision of RYA Senior Instructors with RYA instructors having fun teaching, playing water based games or going on trips with the young people, Sailing sessions are covered by Safety Boats manned by RYA Qualified personnel. Canoeing follows the BCU requirements.
Rounded Rectangle: All we ask of potential members is that they are Water Confident and provide their own, suitable, clothing. This does NOT necessarily mean wet suits and wet suit boots. Warm clothing, firm well fitting trainers or deck shoes, and a windproof jacket (cagoule) & trousers are all that is really necessary, certainly during the early stages of sailing and canoeing. We ask that Mums and Dads help out with the shore based tasks (and perhaps acquire the skills to help out on the water!). These include taking a turn on the Beach Duty Rota (to help with launching & recovery of craft & looking after any youngsters who need to come ashore) as well as helping at the keeping the Centre operating - cutting grass, painting or many of the other little jobs that need doing. Mums and Dads are encouraged to participate as much as possible and we organise Family days for all to join us on the water and look to the adults to assist with vital fund raising.
Down Arrow Callout: Canoeing takes place on Saturday Mornings from 0915 until approx. 1200 and Sailing on Sunday Mornings from 0900 to approx. 1300 as well as Wednesday evening from 1730 until approx. 2100
Down Arrow Callout: The Centre relies on Grants, Donations and its own Fund Raising to keep operating and is lucky to enjoy financial support from Local and District Councils as well as other bodies. It also receive substantial support from WSSC Youth Service
